Jesus’ Story of Overcoming Uncertainty

For Jesus, growing up in foster care meant carrying the weight of past challenges while trying to build a better future. “I didn’t want the past that I had—I wanted a better future,” he shares. But like many foster youth, he struggled with depression, a lack of emotional stability, and finding the motivation to keep going. The road to success often felt overwhelming, especially when paired with the pressures of independence and the financial burdens of college.

Now a student at Lamar University, Jesus is pursuing a degree in Management Information Systems. With the support of ISF, he no longer has to worry about basic financial needs and can focus fully on his education. “I won’t have to worry about money,” he says. “I can just pursue my degree, make good grades, and make a better life for myself.”

A key part of that support has been his ISF mentor, Stacey Palmertree. “He’s a great man—very wise,” Jesus shares. “He pours into me things that I never thought I would really benefit from knowing, and just having that as an asset has made such a difference.”

With faith, mentorship, and ISF’s support, Jesus is building the future he once only dreamed of. His story is a testament to the power of community and the opportunities that come from believing in and investing in foster youth.
