Jordan’a’s Story of Strength and Determination

Jordan’a grew up in foster care, but education was never a priority in her home. Instead of attending school, she was handed books and expected to teach herself. When she aged out of the system, she realized she needed a high school diploma to move forward. Determined to change her future, she enrolled in a GED preparation program and passed—proving her resilience and commitment to success.

Now 21 years old and thriving in Collin College’s nursing program, Jordan’a is breaking barriers. When Collin College introduced her to ISF last summer, she gained financial assistance for housing and essentials, as well as driving lessons to help her gain independence—crucial steps in building the life she envisions for herself.

Recently, Jordan’a was matched with an ISF mentor, and their relationship is already making a difference. “I’m looking forward to having someone in my corner to help me meet my goals, navigate challenges, and grow as both a person and a future nurse,” she shares. With guidance, encouragement, and support, she is gaining the confidence to take on new opportunities.

This summer, she will attend her first ISF Leadership Retreat, where she’ll connect with fellow scholars and gain valuable skills. Jordan’a’s journey is a testament to the power of determination and the impact of having a strong support system—ensuring that foster youth like her don’t have to navigate the path to success alone.
